CCNE Seal SmallThe RN to MSN program at Robert Morris University is designed for registered nurses who do not currently hold a BSN degree. This program recognizes that registered nurses, prepared with an Associate Degree or Diploma, have valuable professional education and experience upon which to build. The fully online RN-MSN program is designed to seamlessly advance the student's education from RN to BSN through to MSN. Upon successful completion of the program, students earn both a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) with an emphasis in nursing education.

The RN to MSN program is offred in a fully online format. Students must complete the RMU core requirements and prerequisite courses. However, depending on previous education, many of these credits can be fulfilled by transfer credits and advanced standing.

Admission Requirements RN-MSN Program:

  • Minimum nursing program GPA of 2.5 is preferred. If the GPA is below 2.5, the applicant may be given the option of participating in an interview for admission consideration 
  • All post-high school transcripts
  • Current resume or curriculum vitae (CV)
  • Current unencumbered license as a registered nurse

Procedure: 

Applicants are to complete the online application.

Once the application is complete with above materials, the Department of Nursing will receive the information from the Admissions Office for review. The applicant will receive notification of the decision from the Admissions Office.

Upon completion of this program what degree will be awarded? This program is designed to facilitate the completion of both the BSN and MSN degrees.

What type of instructional format will be used for this program? The program is completely online with classes in 8 week blocks. This means that students enrolled in this program can complete a course in 8 weeks.

How long with the program take to complete? The RN to MSN program can be completed in 3 years part time. Completion time will be dependent upon the number of credits to transfer. An enrollment counselor will be able to help you to determine what credits will transfer.

Will there be clinical hours required for this program? Yes. There is one course at the undergraduate level and three courses at the Master's level requiring additional clinical practicum time.
