Welcome to the School of Nursing and Health Sciences

Dr. Valerie Howard

Welcome! I am Valerie Howard, the Dean for the School of Nursing and Health Sciences.
Thank you for taking the time to learn more about our school!  I am certain that as you explore and hear about what makes RMU different, you will find this is a unique and engaging place dedicated to YOU and your success!

Since 2003, we have co-created excellence in nursing and health sciences education with input from our nationally recognized clinician-scholar faculty members, prestigious clinical partners, our successful alumni, and, of course, our dedicated students!

In the School of Nursing and Health Sciences, we believe you are ‘more than your major’, and offer exciting experiences beyond the classroom.

I am proud of our new facility (2015), Scaife Hall, which houses the state-of-the-art Regional Research and Innovation in Simulation Education (RISE) Center, where students can practice their technical, team building, and leadership skills in safe environment BEFORE entering the clinical setting.  We even incorporate simulation experiences in our innovative online programs, which offer distance education with no distance between us.

Make sure you check out our International Studies link.  We are one of the few schools that incorporate international experiences for our students in nursing and health sciences majors, with our signature Nicaragua program at the forefront. I’m proud to say that over 50% of our nursing undergraduates take part in this life-changing international experience, which is an amazing statistic in the United States.

You will be impressed to hear about our accredited undergraduate and graduate programs with certification exam pass rates
that exceed national averages.  Our programs are responsive to changes in the healthcare environment, emphasizing the importance of interprofessional education, teamwork, quality, and safety.  Of course, none of this would be possible without the
personal attention given by our dedicated and nationally recognized faculty, who collaborate with key nursing and healthcare leaders to influence the future of nursing and health sciences education.

I know that there are many choices in nursing and health sciences education.  Our programs are unique because we value YOU and are committed to helping you achieve your goals while maintaining professional and academic standards.  According to a recent survey, graduates of Robert Morris University are more likely to be working full time engaged in their jobs and thriving in measures of personal well-being than the average U.S. college graduate.

Please explore our website and learn how you can become a part of our school.  Join us as we co-create excellence in nursing and health sciences education and change lives for the better, not only for our students, but also for our patients, our community, and our world!
